According to an annual report from Leafly, the cannabis industry added about 77,000 jobs last year, and now employs more than 320,000 people (a 15% increase over 2019).
California tops the list with nearly 58,000 jobs statewide. However in Michigan, which legalized in December 2019, the number of cannabis industry jobs is growing incredibly fast. Faster than in any other state where cannabis businesses were classified as essential services during the coronavirus outbreak.
“There are now more cannabis workers than cops in Michigan,” writes Leafly. “In a state known for its auto industry, the number of cannabis workers is now roughly equal to the number of auto repair mechanics.”
