Colorado was one of the first states to legalize the purchase, use and possession of recreational cannabis in 2012, and even the most daring optimists did not foresee what was going to happen.
For instance, Pueblo County officials announced in January that thanks to record revenues from cannabis sales, they will be able to help significantly more students than ever afford a college education.
The county has a population of 160,000, and the amount allocated to the scholarship fund to date is $1.95 million.
Institutions such as Pueblo Community College, Colorado State University Pueblo, Pueblo African American Concern Organization and the Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation will receive their portions of the fund and distribute scholarships to their students.
